4 Quirky Ways To Increase Engagement With Your Facebook Fans

We’ve all heard about how Facebook can benefit your small businesses. We’ve heard how it can put you in touch with a huge audience you might never have reached. We’ve heard how it can increase sales to the nth degree. We’ve even heard how it can turn a small business into a mega power in the blink of an eye.

Yes, this can all be true but unless you know how to increase Facebook engagement with your fans you’re unlikely to garner much success out of the social media platform.

Here then are four quirky ways in which you can go about increasing Facebook engagement.

1. A Little Humour Goes a Long Way

The most effective way to increase Facebook engagement is to inject a little humour into proceedings.

Social media is about being social. It’s not about being stuffy and overtly formal. Think of it more like dress-down Friday than that dreaded meeting with the accounts department. So if you’re going to be social, have some fun.

One thing we all like is a good laugh, so give your fans something to laugh about. Funny stories, pictures and videos will all do the job. Throw in a joke or two (nothing too risqué mind) and you’ll magically notice more and more people interacting with you.

2. Caption This!

An extension of the above, caption competitions often prove to be successful when it comes to increasing Facebook engagement. They’re also really easy to organise.

Find a humorous picture – it doesn’t need to be rib-achingly funny, it can also be somewhat subtle – and share it on your company’s profile page. Ask your fans to provide you with a witty caption and offer a prize for the best submission.

The prize itself needn’t be OTT, but it should be relevant to the products/services your company offers. Competitions offering a free iPad or the likes are rarely effective in luring customers that will continually engage with you, so don’t waste your money.

It’s worth noting that you can also take a serious approach to your caption competition. Find a thought-provoking image and see what your fans can come up with.

3. Presenting Our Fan of the Week

It seems there’s an app for almost anything you can think of today. Sure enough, that includes increasing Facebook engagement.

The Facebook Fan of the Week app selects one of your fans and highlights them for the week. The fan selected is notified while other visitors to your page can see who is picked each week. There’s no reward for being a Fan of the Week – although you could go down that path – but who wouldn’t get a kick out of seeing their name in lights?

4. That’s What They Say

Another app that might prove useful as you look to increase Facebook awareness is the Facebook Reviews app.

This app allows your fans to post a review of your products/services. These reviews will appear on your company’s Facebook page, meaning that anybody that drops by your page can see what others think of you, your products and your services.

Those that post positive reviews should be thanked. Those that post negative reviews should be contacted to discuss how you can better improve your service.

You can nudge customers in the direction of the Facebook Reviews app simply by adding a quick line to this effect on a customer invoice or via a follow-up email. Remember, it’s not worth forcing the feature down their throat though. That will simply lead to negative reviews.
